THE FLAG OF OUR UNION.

A dramatic Unionist print in much the same mold as "The Union Volunteer" (no. 1861-14). Here a young, mustachioed Union soldier is shown in three-quarter length, facing left while holding an American flag over his right shoulder and raising a saber above his head.

This and similar prints were evidently designed to ride the initial crest of militant patriotism in the North after the outbreak of the Civil War.
